Breaking Ice with the US Coast Guard

All aboard the USCGC Hollyhock. The Hollyhock is a 225-foot Seagoing Buoy Tender currently breaking ice in the Straits of Mackinac. We left the Coast Guard Station in St. Ignace and traveled west under the bridge and then back to the station. The ice is between 2 to 3 feet thick under the bridge. A beautiful day with temps in the 20's and sun! Special thanks to ESGR-Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve for arranging this once in a life time opportunity.
