Somewhere in between

We pulled up stakes in Homer and headed back up north on the west side of the Kenai, but not before Carl tried his hand at halibut fishing. He caught 4 halibut (kept 2) at least a half a dozen pacific cod and 3 or 4 big uglies (not quite sure what they are). He kept a halibut steak that we enjoyed for dinner that evening.

For the Discovery Channel viewers of The Deadliest Catch......The Salty Dawg Saloon.

Not much we were really interested in seeing on that side of the peninsula. For the past two nights we have been in the Portage Glacier area and the Chugash National Forest. We have just been hanging out enjoying the scenery. We did go through the Anton Anderson Memorial Tunnel, a one-lane 2 1/2 mile long tunnel which shares the lane with eastbound, westbound and train traffic. The traffic is coordinated by a complex computer system. At the end of the tunnel is the town of Whittier. Sadly we were disappointed in Whittier ( I think we have been spoiled by Seward) so we headed on back through the tunnel and found a spot to camp at Portager Park.

Today were toured the Visitor's Center for Chugash National Forest and spent the rest of the day relaxing and enjoying the scenery.

Peace to all
