Talkeetna and the Food Network

We spent Thursday the 18th and Friday the 19th in Talkeetna, Alaska.

This is the staging area for those wishing to climb Mt. McKinley. Flights leave here to deliver climbers up to 7,200 feet on the mountain to a base camp. From there it takes 2 weeks or more depending on weather to make the top.

Who would expect to find a restaurant featured on Diners Drive Ins and Dives in Talkeetna Alaska? Not this girl! We ate lunch at Talkeetna Roadhouse and had their standard breakfast of scrambled eggs, reindeer sausage, potatoes and toast while seated family style in their 1917 log cabin. Lots of deliciousness!

Yesterday we stopped for a refreshment at the Denali Brewing Company just across the street from the Roadhouse.

As far a wildlife.... A cow moose with calf crossed the parking lot in front of us this morning. It happened so quickly we missed getting a photo.
